FTO 004 Royal Albert Hall Rehearsals Composite (flac)

Royal Albert Hall Rehearsals - Composite (For Trade Only FTO 004)
Royal Albert Hall, London 24.02.69
Stereo & Mono Sbd Composite of Old & New Source
Low Gen - Digitally Restored & Speed corrected

The pitch for ATM 220 "Royal Albert Hall Rehearsals" was chosen by syncing
the concert audio to the official "Stone Free" (13) from "The Jimi Hendrix
Concerts". Since this was all from a common source it seemed likely that
pitch would be constant.

The vocals on the rehearsals did however sound slow, and it turned out that
indeed the pitch of most of the rehearsals was about 3% below that of the
concert. While this could indicate a real pitch difference rather than a
tape speed difference, together with the sluggish-sounding vocals in the
rehearsals it's pretty convincing that the rehearsals are really running
off-speed.

Tuning during the concert is just about exactly 2/3 of a full tone below
standard tuning. Each track of the rehearsals was adjusted to match this
tuning. This resulted in an upward 3% pitch adjustment on every rehearsal
track except the first ("Hey Joe" (49)) which was sharper than the rest
and only required a +1% adjustment.

The chunk of "Hound Dog" takes, plus some of the attached chat and tuning,
was taken from LP. Pitch on the LP was even more problematic. The last half
of the LP is at correct speed but the first part has a lot of variation.
"Hey Joe" (49) starts off 8% fast, decreases to 5% by the end of the song,
and continues to decrease until the end of the 2nd "Hound Dog" take (4),
where speed becomes accurate and stays that way. So varying correction was
required for the LP source.

Speed on all the tracks sounds about right now, and this composite can be
taken as a reasonably accurate reproduction of the correct running speed
for all the rehearsals tracks.

The New Source portion is Speed corrected from the already Digitally Restored
ATM 220 "Royal Albert Hall Rehearsals", while the Old Source portion is
Digitally Restored & Speed corrected from the vinyl bootleg "He Was A Friend
Of Yours" (ftbfs: B035).

If you are the legal representative of Jimi's estate and you don't want his ROIOs shared here you can send me an e-mail at idontbelievetherearenoids@yahoo.com and I will close this blog and stop sharing Jimi's ROIOs freely with other fans.  As you will know ROIOs exist - you can't make them vanish. So, why not let Jimi's fans download them for free instead of having to purchase them from commercial bootleggers on auction sites?  The ATM series was created by fans to be shared freely amongst fans.  We support Jimi and his estate by purchasing his official releases which are absolutely not shared here.
